Vacuum mattresses and splints—military line

The vacuum immobilization mattress is an essential medical tool for trauma care. Its unique feature is that it is completely flexible before use, then becomes rigid once vacuumed.
It is filled with thousands of polystyrene beads that remain mobile as long as air is present. After positioning the patient, first responders remove the air with a pump: the beads compact and the mattress instantly stiffens, perfectly conforming to the victim’s body shape.
This process ensures complete and uniform immobilization, limiting the risk of aggravating an injury, particularly to the spine. Highly resistant, easy to clean, and compatible with stretchers, it is used by professional emergency services: firefighters, paramedics, SMUR (mobile emergency and resuscitation service), and sports teams.
